Northolt set a major platform for the future as they ran home a 4 try semi-final victory in the MMT Bowl competition playing hosts to Old Streetonians 3rds.

They await an outstanding quarter final fixture on the other side of the draw, so they could face either Ealing Exiles, Bank of England 3rds or HAC 3rds on Sunday 16th March.

Old Street's success in the league above Northolt this season wasn't absent on saturday, as they tore into Northolt's defence early on. But it was a noticeable difference in attack which gave The Blues their edge. Where Streets were using many forward phases, their only attack from their backline came from their fly half. Whereas Northolt were able to release all their backs early on, centre Adam Harding was able to pick holes. After a drive from forwards Terry Mckee and Brian Rooney being held up, Northolt turned to Harding to find another hole 10 meters out and he opened the scoring.

With the visitors now on the back foot, 2 Northolt penalties from close range were again being held back by a strong defence. But scrum half Ali Slaughter was quick to see space on the blindside and he threw out to fly half James Corbett who put centre Fraser Pealing through in the corner.

The Northolt backs were stealing the show with set moves that had an overlap on nearly every attempt, but the Old Street's tackling was not too short of perfect. But Corbett was commanding his group well, but took territory when available and was kicking his best performance for the club. With another drive from a stolen line-out, the forwards finally got their reward. McKee was the man to bag the score after aiming his drive low which some of the best defences would have struggled to stop, taking Northolt into the break.

Skipper Frank Enright urged his squad to maintain concentration and made no changes in order to keep the momentum going.

Northolt were able to keep pressure on their opponents, Corbett again kicked well and used his backs. Mark Johnson who stepped in at prop was impressing with his trademark stern defence and drives along with hooker Danny McCarthy who was at every breakdown.

And in what was the move of the game, Northolt sealed their win 10 mins into the half. Pealing and Harding made decoy runs to allow a long pass out wide to full back Paulius Deveikis who side stepped a defender to complete a fine finish that had smiles on Northolt's faces for the remainder of the game.

McKee was not finished, however he was very unlucky not to convert a series of passes wide and had he been 2 inches taller, would have scored perfectly. Pealing also was unlucky and was held short on 2 occasions.

Old Streets barely challenged the Northolt half in the final minutes and the Cayton Park side ended the game with little to worry about.

Northolt take on Kilburn Cosmos 2nds on Saturday in their penultimate MMT4 game of the campaign.
