This week we bring you something special as not only do we give you Rams veteran Adie Hollands’ thoughts on “Team Mates” but because he’s been a Rammer for over 21 years, we thought we’d let him share some of his vast knowledge and wisdom on all things Rammers with some extra little gems for you. Some call him a “legend”, some call him a “leg end” but whatever you know him as or call him read on and enjoy his thoughts, so Adie, it’s over to you.......

Best Trainer – Chris Conroy – puts 100% in and he’s forever throwing himself on the floor, diving at your feet or rolling in the mud and he’s not even a keeper !!

Worst Trainer – Danny King – I have never known anyone take over an hour to tie a pair of football boots whilst everyone’s doing the “Griffter Assault Course”.Somehow he manages to tie the last knot just in time for the 5-a-side game !!

Most Skilful - Waggy – with a cultured left foot he can pick out a pass with his eyes closed.

The Joker - Allan Gary Slingsby Junior - it goes without saying although I can’t say I’ve seen him this season so with Dunny back it may well be him in the interim.

Fastest – A long long time ago it would have been yours truly but as I put my pace out with the rubbish some years ago I would have to say Chris Conroy but that’s only if he’s facing towards the opponents goal, I think his compass only has North on it !!

Most Intelligent – Brett Abson - with his bright red hair he spent more time than anyone else inside at playtime swotting up whilst hiding from the bullies !!

Least Intelligent – David Nail – He’s French and doesn’t speak English so won’t be offended at this question !!

Worst Dress Sense – Archie Griffiths – Bermuda shorts in December ??...Alfie Moon’s cast offs....do I need to go on ?!!?

Worst Taste in Music – A tough one this as it could be any of the younger lads as today’s music is just pure shite, you can’t beat the classics can you Griff ?...so I would say Pavarotti’s love child Bunny !!

And...Who's the longest in the shower – If we’re in the Salem showers then all of us if it’s a length thing and if you listen to the rumours then it has to be David Nail although I wouldn’t know personally as I don’t look at naked men unlike some !!

Most Memorable Match – With over a 1000 games played it’s a nightmare to pick out just one so with this in mind, I will give you 3 !!

In third place I have Stump Cross 3 Northowram 3 @Savile Park – Memorable for Griff completely taking out his close friend Karl Cochrane with a fair but hefty challenge which resulted in Cochrane not only having to leave the field but worse still never talking to Griff again which as a result had him emigrating to Australia !!.........the match will also be remembered for a 25 yard screamer of a goal from Adie Hollands !!!.....yes, my best goal ever scored for the Rammers and this from a wayward pass from Paul Glew !!

In second place I have Northowram 5 Hipperholme United 2 @The Rec – League leaders Hipperholme brought their unbeaten record to the Theatre of Fantasies but were totally blown apart by a rampant Rams who had a younger and much slimmer Danny King in their ranks !!......I have the newspaper cutting somewhere which I will put on the website once I find it.

In first place I have to put down Wibsey 2 Northowram 3 @Wibsey – I just have to put this, just have to as Wibsey were the County Cup holders, it was their first match in the defence of it, it was on their patch and the Rammers had an under strength team going in to the game. We took a shock lead, they equalised, we scored 2 further goals to make it 3-1 and for the last 20 minutes of the game we were bombarded. There were last ditch tackles, blocks, great saves and even an instance where I stopped a goal bound shot with my head which cannoned up onto the bar and landed in our keeper’s hands, none other than Rams legend Gav Dent. The best thing about the game was the night out afterwards, we went round Wibsey celebrating and generally getting tanked up and had to be told to leave the village by a pub bouncer as Wibsey weren’t happy and were going to take their aggression out on us if we didn’t leave....the cry babies !!

Best Player You’ve Played With – Again, I could be here all day with the number of players I’ve played with as there have been many over the years, Mark Eade and Steve Bell’s goal scoring prowess, Chris Ogden’s flying finger tip saves, Neil Griffiths’ presence and vision, Dave Ridler and Mark Sutcliffe’s no fear tackling but of all these players I’ve played with I can’t narrow it down to just 1 so I will have to let you have the best 2 players I’ve played with, 1 past and 1 present :-

Neil “Rodders” Thomas - one of the laziest players you’ll ever come across but his reading of the game was second to none, he could play centre half, centre midfield or even up front and excelled in any of these positions. He could head, tackle and pass and wasn’t afraid to mix it either.

Matthew Rushworth – what more can I say about this lad ? playing beside him is a pleasure, not as skilful as Rodders but just as good in the air, if not better, be it defending or attacking set pieces, strong in the tackle and commanding on the field with his leadership skills. He can read a game brilliantly and keeps going to the end with his “none shall pass” mentality.

Best Player You’ve Played Against – An easy one this as not many people get the better of me but in his time Mickey Drennan has had the Indian sign over me on a number of occasions, thankfully it wasn’t all one way as I sometimes came out on top but the battles I had with him will live long in the memory. An exceptional skilful player and a brilliant eye for goal made him the best I have played against and that includes all those Brighouse Town prima donnas !!

Biggest Achievement – Being named club captain for the 2nd half of a season following Lee “Stodge” Hamilton’s defection to Shelf United, what greater honour and achievement can there be ?

Biggest Regret – Not scoring more goals and not learning to ski !!

Biggest Fear – Turning up on a Saturday and not being named in the first XI, not because I am in the twilight of my career but because I love playing for the Rammers. I have always had this fear, even when in my prime I had this fear, the thought of being dropped just spurs me on to put in a performance every week and yes that time will come soon and maybe not soon enough for some of you !!

Favourite Food – All things Seafood

Favourite Meat – Lamb

Favourite Shirt Number – Obviously number 3 and when I retire I hope the chairman and powers that be retires this number too !!

Future ? – To continue promoting the Rammers to the world through the medium of social media and helping them become a force to be reckoned with as no trophy since 1981 is just not on !!
