In the absence of Simon Spensley yesterday I had the pleasure of looking after the young stags side yesterday . We were hosting the powerful and well drilled Moortown who were looking to seal the merit league with a bonus point win over the stags having suffered a big defeat in the return fixture the captains pre match words were go out and enjoy the game and get stuck in . The tone of the match was set early buy Josh Long who chasing one of his kicks put in a great hit on the Moortown 15 . For the rest of the game when in defence ribb gave them no respect and put them under lots of pressure with the offensive tacking lead buy the impressive Richard Wood playing his second game back after a long term injury . This was backed up buy the rest of the team with special mention to Frankie Brown Damon Barrett and the little but powerful Joe Aspin. Score at half time 7-3 to the visitors . Having a bench stacked with second and back row players helped Ribb to keep the intensity up in defence . In the scone half Ribb took it to Moortown and with the opposition giving away penalties and then players in the sin bin Rbb's forwards and midfield backs started to get over the gain line and play some good rugby a try scored at 55min from Damon Barrett . Final score 17-10 to Moortown
It was a pleasure to help out the v young talented stags side with a sprinkling of old heads in there . Thanks to the lads from Clone for helping us out and Stuart Martin and John Hargreaves who were happy to sacrifice a run around and let the young lads gain experience.
Comment from Colne & Nelson's John Hargreaves.
John Hargreaves - "I’ve watched a lot of rugby over the last 20 years and can honestly say , that's one of the best performances by a set of young lads against a much bigger and more experienced side I’ve seen... the future is safe at Ribb.."
