
North Shields RFC held their traditional end of season day with the Chesties Challenge match and club awards night.
The afternoon saw the match between the under 30’s and the over 30’s. After last season’s whitewash (a 64-0 win for the unders) the overs led by Ben Marshall gained their revenge with a 41-12 victory.
The evening saw the club awards which started with a special presentation to Lauren for her 10 years service at the club.
Top try scorer for the season (18) and the only player to play every first team match this season – Jonathan Kemsley won two awards – picking up the Player of the Season for the first team and the player’s player of the season for the firsts.
The Crusaders awards were given to Will Evans who was player of the year for the second year running and veteran prop Peter Joyner was a popular winner as the Crusaders players’ player. The young player of the year award was won by Callum Walker for the second year running while Jethro Pearson was named most improved player.
The Sniffer Award for commitment and dedication to rugby was awarded to Tom Rendles, Tom re-joined the coaching team this season and took over as head coach after Christmas with the first team ending the season on a great run of results. The Sid Wiseman Award went to David Shield and the Club Pearson of the year was Jason Turner.
