Crusaders win county Team of the Month for January

North Shields Crusaders have been named team of the month for January by the Northumberland Rugby Union.

They win 20 tickets to the Newcastle Falcons v Ealing game on Sat, 28th March 2020 at Kingston Park, kindly donated by Newcastle Falcons.

Please have a read of their nomination below and why they are worthy winners ...

The North Shields Crusaders have seen an exciting season topping their league and having a consistent number of players for games.

They have also successfully signed several students to the team who travel all the way from the city centre to train and play for us. On their recent game vs Blaydon bricks, they lost 7 of their players to the first team but were able to still field a full team with subs and give a great game.

We have also successfully set up our own Kit bank which is there for players across the club who may be struggling financially to purchase kit and thus removing that barrier to play the sport we love. Many players/coaches and member donated kit which showed real teamwork and sportsmanship to ensure anyone who would like to, could train & play.

This was expanded to our youth team too, with young member receiving a brand-new pair of boots so he could play.

Throughout December every Saturday saw all teams donating items to our local food bank The Bay.

With strength in number they were also able to field a third team for a fantastic game against Sunderland 3rd s which they won 37-0.

We have a number of social activities planned and have started a club collection for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

There has also been a lot of internal changes at the club and with this going on the team have still kept together and made sure the effort and dedication I to the game we all love.
