Disability Inclusive Rugby – NSRFC are proud to announce the formation of our new Mixed Ability Rugby Team: Bringing our community closer together!

At North Shields Rugby Football Club, we understand the true meaning of family. We strive to create new and exciting opportunities for our community to grow closer and play sport in a different way.

Rugby can open doors to people who may lack opportunities elsewhere, therefore we are proud to now have amongst our ranks a new and inclusive rugby team who play fun and engaging, NON-CONTACT variants of the best game in the world... rugby.

Our Mixed Ability Team represents players from all abilities, backgrounds and ages (10+ through to old) who support each other to get the most out of each rugby session. The sessions are developed in a way which promotes the social benefits that rugby has to offer; leadership, communication, respect and camaraderie to name a few.

The diversity of our players is immense. We have players from our own 1st and 2nd teams, as well as other players (new and old) from across the wider community, who support others in a fun and friendly environment to play rugby.

Our player demographic currently includes: Learning Disability, Autism, ADHD, Attachment disorder, Mental illness, sight and hearing difficulties, Down’s syndrome and more…

The sessions are led and supervised by fully qualified coaches who have been trained and vetted by the RFU and our own club safeguarding officer.

“WE ARE PROUD TO BE THE ONLY RUGBY CLUB OFFERING MIXED ABILITY RUGBY FOR MILES; WE UNDERSTAND OUR RESPONSIBILITY AND ARE COMMITTED TO ADVOCATING THE RIGHTS AND NEEDS OF ALL OUR ATHLETES AND CONTINUE TO DO THAT BY USING OUR INITIATIVE AND OFFERING OUR COMMUNITY MORE, NEW AND EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES LIKE THIS”
Anthony Jordan (Club Captain/Player Ambassador)

Rugby is for everyone, some of the benefits our players experience are;

  • Being offered the opportunity for siblings and families to engage in activities together which are stimulating and enjoyable.
  • Create a sense of belonging, self-concept, and achievement.
  • Develop confidence, friendships, social skills, independence and overall well being.
  • To give people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to understand others within their community.
  • Give parents and carers the opportunity to form new supportive friendships and networks.

If you are interested or know someone who is, these FREE sessions run EVERY MONDAY evening from 6pm – 7pm at NORTH SHIELDS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB, PRESTON PLAYING FIELDS, NE29 9ND, NORTH SHIELDS.
You are more than welcome to message us on Facebook; North Shields RFC, for more information OR alternatively, you can contact our CHAIR OF RUGBY, SIMON FORSTER on 07908662392.
