Shields make it 2 from 2 with another solid display against Stockton

North Shields 2nd XI hoped to make it 2 from and continue their strong start to the season. Work commitments and call ups to the 1st XI had caused some availability concerns, however Shields managed to pull together full team.

With a call up to the 1st XI for Captain Andrew Gordon, Chris Brunton took the armband for todays game with Brunton having captained North Shields 1st XI for several seasons Gordon new the team was going to be well looked after.

Shields started the game strongly pressing Stockton at every opportunity. Kimber and Morley finding space on the flanks and causing Stockton issues time and time again however Stockton's defence held tight and managed to thwart the efforts of Striker Chater on numerous occasions, their goalkeeper pulling off some fantastic saves to keep the score at 0-0. Shields then made the breakthrough they were after Chater made a superb turn and fed Kristiansen who was left unmarked on the penalty spot to finish in the bottom corner. Goal Shields 1 - Stockton 0

Shields continued the relentless pressure on the Stockton goal with Brunton and Anderson distributing the ball brilliantly across the park. Shields were unlucky not to have gone into half time with a bigger lead as Chater, Kimber and Morley being denied by the Stockton 'keeper.

Shields started the 2nd half with the same hunger as the first and were rewarded when Brian Kimber managed to slip the ball past the Stockton 'keeper after his original shot rebounded right to his stick. Goal Shields 2 - Stockton 0.

It wasn't long after that Shields extended their lead with a penalty stroke after a Stockton defender blocked a goal bound effort on the line with his foot. Up stepped Chater who made no mistake in putting the ball in the net. Goal Shields 3 - Stockton 0.

In the aftermath of the goal Shields midfielder Anderson found himself green carded and a 2 minute suspension to go with it. Following his suspension Anderson knew he had to make it up to the team and rightly did so by grabbing Shields 4th goal with a well taken strike. Goal Shields 4 - Stockton 0.

Shields continued to pile the pressure on Stockton and managed to grab 3 more goals, 1 from Kristiansen and 2 more from Chater included a nice finish after rounding the keeper.

Final Score: North Shields 7 - Stockton 0

A great display by all players not many mistakes. The Shields defence worked together perfectly for a 2nd game running with David Murray outstanding again. Narrowly missing out on another Man of the Match with the midfield due of Brunton and Anderson running the show for Shields Captain Brunton was awarding it from his teammates.

Next week Shields welcome Morpeth to Marden Bridge in what will be a tough test. Let's get to training on Tuesday and make sure we ar ready for the test.
