Rugby Terminology

Mark: Players who are in their own 22, receiving a kick from general play, can call for a mark. To do this, they must catch the ball cleanly and yell “mark!” loudly enough for the referee to hear. The result will be a free kick that the player who caught the ball must take.
If you can cleanly catch a ball kicked high in the air with opposition pounding towards you intent on doing damage, you deserve your free kick.

Maul
Players from both teams create a rugby maul by encircling the one with the ball attempting to gain ground. If the ball hits the ground or the ball holder emerges from the group, then that becomes the end of the maul. The referee may also end a maul by calling for a scrummage.
Or
Maul: Free-for-all brawl where the ball is kept in the air.

Rugby Trivia

The final score was Scotty’s Little Soldiers 1480 – 1849 School of Hard Knocks.

Northwich Rugby Trivia

Mercenaries: You may recall in 2015 Northwich arranged a Charity fixture to raise much needed funds for Scotties Little Soldiers. The games result was secondary, Scotties Little Soldiers were the winners on this occasion, although it was a great day for forging new rugby friendships between Helsby, Northwest Mercenaries RFU and Northwich RUFC

Mini Rugby and Junior Rugby sessions are the ideal way to give your child an extra edge in rugby. Mini Rugby is a not a full contact sport with crunching tackles it is none contact often called “tag”. Superstars rugby at Northwich is for pre-school children and this is where it all starts!

Much is lauded regards our first XV performances during the now famous EDF season but did you also know that same season:

Miller Homes leagues division 4 Northwich 2nds were promoted.
Miller Homes division 5 league our 3rds also won promotion.
And the Junior Colts won the Junior Shield.
Northwich 1st XV went undefeated and hadn’t lost in three competitions during the season, losing only one fixture in 18 months, Their record rated them the 4th best team in the country.

Milestones: Other milestones were reached in 2015-16,with a 21st successive league win, and over a 1,000 points tally for the term. Promotion from South Lancs/Cheshire Division One, finishing 20 points clear of second-placed West Park. Northwich’s reward was a return to level six of the Rugby Football Union’s league structure three years after they were relegated.

Clubhouse Chat

Match reports: Taken from a MCC (Northwich) newsletter. It had been a half of thrust and counter thrust, full of skill and commitment, all the ingredients associated with club rugby, but as metrologists are fond of forecasting, “a change is on its way!” and a storm was brewing.
The MCC players hunkered down during the interval, a serious pow-wow took place, war paint was refreshed and before the smoke signals had dispersed the tom-toms for victory were pounding; MCC were on the warpath and sweeping deep into Metrovick territory.
At times Vick managed to battle the terrain but were unable to consolidate any gains made and all the time they had to cope with a perfectly choreographed war-dance of tries from MCC. It was a good honest performance from Vick but when MCC hit their straps in the second forty the outcome was signed, sealed and delivered, leaving Metrovick to lick their wounds;

Who wrote them in 1974?
