JB recollects

Like the faithful on the coach I also travelled the day before and booked into the same travelodge.

Car full and with a couple of “mates” off we set, sharing a beer and some lively banter we arrived in London and within sight was the hotel, 100 yards away at traffic-lights and the car abruptly stops. 10 minutes of head scratching, swearing and beeping horns followed then eureka it restarted (just) we limped like a wounded kangaroo into the hotel car park.

Hey were going to HQ forget the car it will be ok tomorrow.

So the coffin dodgers gathered, out for a meal then find a pub, banter and jollifications ensued. Tim Pickerings lad challenged all on the pool table and hit a winning streak “I’ll give you a game, you bridge for me and I’ll play” guess who won.

Up early the following morning “game day” best send my carer to test the car “shit won’t start”. TAXI!

Frantic phone calls to find a wheelchair accessible taxi, failure!

Plan 2 locate a big taxi and remove the back row of seats! Success!

Lifting a heavy power wheelchair with me in situ is no mean feat, but we have lots of Northwich supporters at the hotel and I have my travelling “mates”. Arrive at Twickenham to be greeted by my “mates” and arrange same taxi for later.

Fantastic mornings rugby followed by celebratory dinner at Twickers plenty beers, wine & port.

Taxi arrives JB is carefully lifted “thrown” in the vehicle to shouts of we’re travelling back home on the bus with the team for more beers.

Half way back to the hotel it dawns on me “How the ^%$K do I get out of this taxi”.

And my cars still broke in the car park. Cheers “mates”.
