Rugby Terminology

Not straight:Referee's call when a line-out throw or the feeding of the ball into the scrum is unfairly towards the team in possession, preventing any contest for the ball. It is punished by resetting the set piece and giving control of the ball to the opposition.

Rugby Trivia

Namibian Rudie van Vuuren appeared in both the cricket and rugby union World Cups in 2003.
New Zealander Michael Jones scored the opening try of the match at both the 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cups.

Northwich Rugby Trivia

Nuneaton: MCC playing in the 3rd round of the 1989 Pilkington Cup very nearly caused the biggest upset of the competition with the most dramatic of finishes. With only 60 seconds remaining in the game MCC were awarded a penalty just to the left of the posts. The score stood at 10-12 to the visitors, the implications were not lost by either side nor both sets of supporters. Many from both camps could not dare to look as Keith Jones stepped up to place the ball. Unfortunately his kick sailed just wide of the uprights. Whilst the home team were left reeling in shock Nuneaton got the ball out wide to the left wing, Russ Lindsley, the second top points scorer in the country touched down to make the tie safe.
MCC committee members were gracious in defeat saying Nuneaton deserved the victory 10:16.

Nancollis: Following the passing of ex-chairman John in 2003, his wife Pat announced that the family is to bequeath a sum of money to set up a fund to assist parents with low income to get their children into rugby.

Northwich No.8 Christopher Dale captained the England Under 18 team that played Scotland Under 18 in 2003. Chris led England Under 18’s to victory in his first game as captain but they ended the competition in 3rd place.

Northwich joined the NW regional leagues for the 2004-05 season (this league system began 03-04).

A few major highlights for a small grassroots rugby club:

Northwich Rugby Club became the first rugby club in Cheshire to win Sport England’s “Clubmark” award in April. 2004 and three years later achieved “Clubmark II” accreditation, becoming only the third rugby club in England to receive the award.

Northwich in 2006 won the Cheshire Community Sports Club of the Year Award for the 3rd time in succession and also after two years as runner-up, finally won the BBC NW Community Sports Club Award.

Don't know if this is a scam but I just received a text saying I'd won £250 cash or two tickets to an Elvis tribute night. It says Press 1 for the money or 2 for the show....
