13th April rugby chatter

Postie said Northwich passed a test when they came from behind to beat Douglas “We had to go back to basics,” said the director of rugby. With Birkenhead Park in the Cheshire RFU Vase final near, he urged his players to stay focused. Broughton Park have the best defensive record in the league and are a pretty formidable opponent on their own patch. Northwich were clearly second best against a determined Broughton Park side the win ensuring they remain in N1W. This weekend sees Manchester and Firwood Waterloo go face to face for survival.

Did you know? 13th April 2013 was Presidents & reunion day, a large Northwich crowd were treated to 3 fixtures, A combined Northwich & Winn Park vets charity game, Northwich Ladies v Vagabonds Ladies & Northwich v Whitchurch, Steve Campbell recorded 100% accuracy on kicking duty and Dara Cairns scoring a rare try. Returned player Phil Williams started as did Houghton, Naylor and Heywood.

Northwich have their penultimate home game of the season Anselmians visiting Moss Farm 3pm ko. It’s fair to say having spent 5 years away Anselmians have not had the most auspicious season on their return to North 1 West. 12 Months ago they were battling for promotion from level 7, and knowing over the last few weeks they are heading straight back. However a league restructure if it occurs could see them remain a level 6 club. They have found the going tough at level 6 but, having learned lessons, no doubt at which level they perform will come back stronger, playing from a new facility with some exciting young talent, many making their debuts in our opening league reverse fixture. Having only one away win, at also relegated De La Salle, last week they hosted Warrington losing 14-40.

Northwich 2 hop the fence for their final league fixture at Winnington Park 2. Northwich have claimed bragging rights on their last 5 meetings with a cumulative score 225-63. Northwich had no fixture last week Whitchurch 2 cried off.

Northwich 3 visiting Bowden in what will be Steve Taylors final competitive game prior to retirement and a little social vets rugby.
