A road to recovery.

It's times like this you find your true Club Men.
- Steve Wood

Pot the reds then, screw back. For the yellow green brown blue pink and black.
Snooker loopy nuts are we.
We're all snooker loopy . Was a hit for Chas and Dave in 1986.

But on the 25/04/1998 it was a poor choice on the clubs jukebox.

As Northwich crashed away at Caldy.

At the beginning of the season Tim Wilding said “It’s hard picking up the pieces once a clubs started to slide”.

However Northwich began the campaign with an away win at Old Aldwinians, although suffering defeat in the 1st league fixture the following week at Netherhall.

Caldy on the other hand went unbeaten in their first 9 fixtures and then they came to Northwich.

Northwich stood up to the opposition and matched them man for man and recorded Caldys first defeat of the season 11:6 to the Blacks.

Then the season looked more promising.

Roll on to the final game of the season, Caldy won every other game that year.

Their only loss to Northwich and they wanted revenge.

Coach Tim Wilding & assistant Paul Taylor knew it was going to be tough visiting Caldy who were flying away at the top of the table.

Whilst Northwich had lost 5 league games on the trot.

Then disaster struck with a force worse than any Covid pandemic.

End of season “itus”.

Due to cry-offs Tim had to play and the squad drew in players from our 2nd & 3rd teams.

Revenge was sweet as Caldy recorded a 147:0.

Caldy coach at that time was Martin Poste now Director of Rugby at Northwich.

Caldy then won 4 successive promotions gaining National level status.

Northwich finished the season below mid-table but a slow decline set in for the club.

The following season Northwich lost their first eight league games.

There was a need to create an environment where the players were happy, supported each other and embraced the challenge of personal development.

Despite losing their opening games the players rallied to stay up and Northwich ended the campaign in 8th.

Many believe those two years were vital.

These seasons helped to improve our skill levels, our game management improved and we became mentally stronger.

Once this settled we started to gain confidence and win.

Promotion for Northwich was finally sealed two seasons after suffering the historic snooker score defeat.
