The aim is promote and attract more people (All ages, genders and abilities) to this version of the game. The games format will be to mix the participants so as NOT to create a club v club competition.

Kerry Stead plays for Northwich Walking Rugby. She said “I’m the only woman at the club at the moment and we could do with more. It really is for everyone. It’s wonderful. It keeps you active – I’ve got fitter since playing Walking Rugby. We train on a Monday evening and laugh most of the time, we all get on very well.”

Walking Rugby is a simplified version of Rugby suitable for all ages, abilities & genders being based on a passive passing game, suitable for ex-players, injured and rehabilitating current players and those interested in Rugby without any experience!

Those past retirement age can still indulge without the full-on contact - or those wishing to keep up their activity levels can try a new sport. Walking Rugby is a great leveller, you do need a certain degree of mobility but as we are open to all genders and ages – a ‘team’ means you all work as one.

Dominic Eyes said “From a mental health point of view it’s been priceless, the social benefits in particular are tremendous. It started off as a means to get some of our members active and also to have some social time afterwards It’s gone from strength to strength and we’ve opened up the opportunity so that anyone can join us at Moss Farm”.

Sunday the 5th will be a great opportunity for those who want to try for the first time or those who just wish to enjoy the spectacle and support from either the sidelines or clubhouse..

The clubhouse will be open for food and refreshments and we hope this showcase will also generate interest from other local clubs. Lymm, Moore, Sandbach, Knutsford, Holmes Chapel, Helsby and Winnington Park. We hope this showcase will also generate extra participation for these and other clubs within the area.

An inter-Club competition will follow in Spring.
