Participating players from Moore, Manchester, Trafford MV, Hoylake, Mid Cheshire 7, Superstars and Northwich RUFC attended the inaugural Northwich 7-a-side Walking Rugby Festival with teams playing friendly matches to win trophies and medals.
With teams of seven players lining up against each other, the RFU draft rules for Walking Rugby were put into full effect for the first time in a competitive way, with over 50 players participating in this inaugural gathering.
The event raised a fantastic total of £277.60 every penny of which is going to the RFU Injured Players Fund which is amazing. Thanks to all who took part in the raffle or donated for helping us to support this very worthy cause.
“There’s a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to ensure these opportunities at Northwich, and we’re proud to be able to go out to our community to make a difference through the power of the sport, which was great to see people of all ages being able to compete and most importantly enjoy alongside each other.
Congratulations went to Northwich RUFC for winning 5 and drawing 1 of their 6 games, Mid-Cheshire 7 whom lost only once, Moore in 3rd while Manchester came a close 4th - Winning 3, and losing 3.
Festival organiser Dominic Eyes said “The Northwich walking rugby group has gone from strength to strength and we’ve opened up the opportunity so that anyone can join us at Moss Farm on a Monday night.”
While the format of Walking Rugby is fully inclusive to all ages, genders and abilities, its main appeal is to older and socially isolated population.
Special thanks to our main sponsor on the day - EJN Electrical Ltd for their generous support, thanks to Neil Saunders for the photography, and to the hard-work of Kerry Stead for all the assistance behind the scenes, bringing us all together for a fantastic inaugural tournament
Next session is on Monday 16th May 6:30pm at Northwich RUFC Moss Farm CW8 4BH.
