Northwich travel to Port-E-Chee to face Douglas who are nineth in this seasons Regional Two North West league. The two sides had contrasting fortunes in their last fixtures, with Douglas tripping up at Burnage for their fifth loss of the campaign, and Northwich re-asserting their intent to climb the league table with a resounding win versus Crewe & Nantwich at Moss Farm.
Douglas Rugby Club have managed to keep in the lower midfield in the Regional Two North West league table, even after a beating from Burnage, although the Isle of Man side earned a four try bonus point. Just how precious away bonus points are is underlined by five home wins from six fixtures in the division during the last round of fixtures two weeks ago, including Altrincham Kersal’s home success against previously undefeated league-leaders Waterloo.
Douglas holds no horrors for the visitors, their last two visits to the island resulting in Northwich victories but making a fast start will be key and Northwich will be conscious of the need to get in to an early rhythm.
The logistics of overseas travel are considerable and distracting, but the stage is set for a NW2 clash of two teams hungry to advance in the league. Northwich faithful will – no matter the result – have a deserved celebration in Douglas town with a great group of players, coaching team, committee and supporters who we hope will be thoroughly entertained this weekend - a special shout out to all travellers.
