Northwich and our neighbours Winnington Park are locked in a race to the bottom, and this weekends fixture will no doubt bring greater challenges as 1st placed Firwood Waterloo visit Moss Farm to face a Northwich squad languishing in 12th position.
Things looked very different when Waterloo last visited Northwich in 2019, when there was little to chose between the two sides it turned out to be a disappointment in terms of running rugby as both teams slogged it out in what was an arm wrestle for the entire 80 minutes. It wasn’t until the match entered the second quarter that the scoreboard came into use - Northwich ended the game winning 16-12. Only one Northwich player from that encounter is expected to make an appearance in this Saturdays squad, Tom Husbands.
Northwich supporters can see their players commitment and individuality but as a squad it’s not quite clicking. The players are particularly disappointed with their performances and the fact that they have only scored 1 bonus-point in the eight games played. What they are most disappointed with, is that they have shipped on average 24 points per game. It’s a deficit that they are determined to reduce; The skill-sets are evident, but our application needs to improve.
Waterloo put in a dominant display against 4th place Burnage RFC last Saturday, blowing the visitors away with five exceptional tries in 30 minutes of the 1st half. A much closer second half, but Waterloo came through and got the bonus point win and kept their place at the top of the league in front of a vocal support.
This is an excellent opportunity to get to the club as a supporter as this will lead onto Saturdays Autumn Internationals game where England will kick off against South Africa 17.40 ko. The game will be shown throughout the clubhouse!
