U8s find their MOJO

Sunday saw a travelling team of Under 7 and 8’s from Birkenhead Park join us on a very warm autumn day.

We had a large number of players this week which saw three games progressing at once which substitutes for most of the teams in Under 7’s and 8’s, this has been our best turnout of the year so far with the membership continuing to grow.

The Under 8’s lined up with a couple of subs against a large and well organised Birkenhead side. Lots of free flowing rugby saw scores at both ends as the game started, the Birkenhead team displayed a little more organisation and as such ran in a few more scores than Northwich. Some physical contact and ill-discipline in the match saw a penalty try awarded to Northwich as Dylan was prevented from scoring a certain try in what was otherwise a well fought and clean match.

As the game progressed both teams found their passing mojo and became a little more confident and expansive. This lead to some good team tries from each side with scores for all of the players involved in the match with Riley running in a couple of good tries. Some tight and improved defence saw the game finish with 3 turnovers and no scores on defensive sets until Northwich finally broke the deadlock to finish the match. Both teams played well and improved as the game progressed.
Riley was awarded this week’s man of the match for a fine all round display.

Northwich have some work to do in training this week on passing and position and look forward to their next home game on Sunday.

The Under 7’s continued to make good progress with even the Birkenhead coaches commenting on how well they are doing as a team.
