Northwich RUFC host U12 Kids First Cluster Festival

Putting Kids First
Eight U12 teams from across central Cheshire travelled to Northwich RUFC for a morning of rugby at the RFU Kids First Cluster Festival. Following the Kids First initiative trumpeted by the RFU, the players took control of the morning's rugby, letting them decide team tactics, strategy and game plan. Leaving the coaches and parents to take a back seat, the players were in the driving seat.
With over 120 players descending on Moss Farm with their accompanying parents and spectators, Northwich's home ground became a hive of activity for the morning.
Teams from Lymm, Crewe & Nantwich, Winnington Park, Sandbach, Congleton, Bowdon, Knutsford and of course the hosts Northwich descended on a bright but chilly Moss Farm. The teams were split into two groups, resulting in each team having three games of ten minute halves. What followed was a display of great flair, skill, enjoyment and sportsmanship as clubs took each other on throughout the morning. With most clubs having played each other earlier in the season, the festival was a great way to show how all teams had progressed since the season began last September. After each match, the players from either side led and discussed what each team did well, and what could be improved on next time - a positive and enjoyable learning experience for all.
With hot food and refreshments available pitchside - not one player, spectator or parent left feeling hungry.
Northwich RUFC put in a great effort with the morning running smoothly, efficiently and was enjoyed by all. Comments from visiting clubs include:
