Eight Northwich U9 players travelled to Whitchurch RUFC on a chilli but bright February morning. A biting easterly wind was however soon forgotten due to the warm welcome provided by Whitchurch with the expectation of a fun morning playing rugby. After a minute's applause to mark the achievements of one of Whitchurch's long term players whom had recently passed away, all teams got down to business.
Northwich played two Whitchurch teams whom were at times closely matched. The hard work and training that had been put in over the last few weeks was clear for all to see with immaculate and accurate passing from the visiting team with few errors. The Northwich side put their much practiced strategy of drawing the opposition's defensive line across the pitch to then send it wide through the large whole that had been built in the oppositions defensive line to great effect. However Northwich found it hard to counter the hard straight running of the home team which saw them break the defensive line on numerous ocasions.
Whitchurch were fantastic hosts who played with great spirit, humour and camaraderie. The Northwich team will be looking forward to hopefully meeting them again later in the season.
Whitchurch nominated Kyle as man of the match for his excellent straight running.
