Norwich United are delighted to announce our third signing of the summer break, with Max Melanson joining the club from Thetford Town. Max is a 23 year old attacking midfield player, most comfortable playing as a ‘number 10’, a strong competitor with the technique and ability to create and finish chances on a regular basis.
Max Melanson began his footballing career at Yeovil Town, coming through their academy system, he joins several fellow academy graduates at Plantation Park such as Harry Barker, Kyle Richardson, Ryan Dickerson and Matty Daniels. Players who promise to offer high quality, technical skills across the squad for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
After leaving Yeovil Town Max has had 3 separate spells at Thetford Town as well as representing Mildenhall Town, Stowmarket Town and Newmarket Town, if nothing else Norwich United achieve the distinction of being the first club Max has played for who do not have the word ‘Town’ in their name!
In Max’s most recent Thetford Town spell over the last two Covid-impacted seasons he scored 16 goals in 45 games, a very impressive return from midfield. In the 2017-18 season Max played 50 games for Thetford with an even more impressive goal tally of 28 for that season, a rate of return most strikers would be more than happy with.
Melanson has proven his quality at Thurlow Nunn Premier level over several seasons at Thetford and signing for Norwich United shows his ambition to play at the highest level he can as Max joins a club with ambitions to challenge for the league title this season.
Norwich United Manager Steve Eastaugh said of his latest signing: “Max is a talented young man and this is third time lucky for us in trying to sign him! We are delighted he has chosen to join us, as we know he will have had plenty of choices available to him. Max will give us quality in the final third and we hope he will contribute in creating and taking chances for us.
We just felt the group needed a little bit more strength in this area and we know he will add something different to our current attacking options. Even though Max is joining us late in pre-season, we have already seen glimpses of his strengths and with the support of the staff, Max will be working hard to get up to speed.”
