Good afternoon everybody and a warm welcome to Ricky Cornish, the players, staff and officials from Mildenhall Town FC for this exciting FA Cup tie.
We are delighted to be representing the club again in the FA Cup and the players have the chance to make club history today by taking the club further than we have ever gone in the competition.
This week has seen us return with 6 points in the league against Newmarket and Whitton, which is exactly what we had hoped for, before returning to cup action today. The two victories were very different, Saturday demonstrating resilience in standing up to Newmarket's physicality and direct approach and Tuesday a controlled display of intense pressing and clinical finishing. We are so pleased with the level of performance many key players are now reaching, but it would be remiss of me not to mention the seven in four goal return from Liam Jackson, with Tuesday seeing him earn his first match ball of the season.
On returning to the dressing room on Saturday i candidly remarked that 'they wont lose many games' referring to our opponents Newmarket, only to see Lakenheath hit them for six on Tuesday evening. It just goes to show how unpredictable the game can be and more so the challenge to be remotely consistent with a Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday schedule. I guess it also shows that us managers don't really know that much at all, keep that between us though!!
Tuesday marked a landmark 200 games for our club captain Sam Watts, and as expected he delivered an outstanding performance. Sam is a fantastic ambassador and role model for our football club, one in which every young player should watch and learn from. His dedication to his training, and his diet, results in very few injuries and allows him to play the volume of games he does. He is honest, conscientious and a driving force for excellence in our dressing room. We all congratulate Sam on this achievement, thank him for his service and look forward to the next milestone, but for now as he would say 'Lads get ready for war!'
Enjoy the game.
Steve
