WELFARE BOSHED BY BOSHELL

Darren Rushton got the Miners off to a great start with a 4th minute header from a Tom Hope corner. The game was end to end with half chances at both ends. Both bars were rattled which made for a very entertaining bank holiday fixture.
The match was marred by a freak accident when the Brighouse centre half Ash Townsend was knocked unconscious by a stray booot from Ernie Boafo. The game was delayed for 30 minutes while he was attended to by an ambulance crew as he had sustained damage to his neck.
The Welfare had the better of the game but Town were always dangerous with the constant threat of Nathan Cartman, though for the vast majority of the game Matthew Denton policed him very well.
Brighouse turned the screw in the last 10 minutes looking for an equalizer and had a good shout for a penalty turned down when the ball struck the elbow of Denton, the Ref waved play on much to the annoyance of the visiting team. Their despair was short lived. With 4 minutes left a cross from the left was turned in by Cartman to make it one a piece.
The Welfare rallied and Jimmy Jagger should have scored from 5 yards out. Brighouse went straight up the other end and were awarded a very soft penalty after Sam Jackson headed the ball away. The ref Ian Johnson pointed to the spot immediately. After missing the first penalty claim I think he wanted to "right his wrong." Mr Johnson need sto improve if he is going to remain at this standard. Nick Boshell smashed the ball into the top of the net in 3 minutes of injury time to give the visitors all 3 points.
There were some good performances right throughout the team especially Gav Ainsley between the posts but the M.O.M. was Darren Jackson for his tireless running in midfield
