A set back for Nostell, as this poor Winterton side took all three points from the Welfare Ground. Nostell have to be disappointed that they did not double their own points tally.
A poor start saw both sides looking to stop the other from playing, resulting in a dour midfield competition, endured for nearly 15 minutes.
Nostell’s Simon Poole started well, with Phil Myles showing well on the left when he was fed the ball. A fine break down the left, involving Scott Smith, Myles and Campagna for Nostell, was the only real excitement in the first 15 minutes. Myles put another cross in on 15 minutes, only to see Matthew Johnson fire over the bar from a good position.
The game opened up a little, but both keepers rarely saw the ball, until Nostell’s Ben Saynor was called into action when Winterton’s Finnigan received a ball from Watson. Saynor stood his ground and parried the ball away.
Play was static in midfield. However, Poole was working hard and on 37 minutes, he carved out a chance for Kevin Morris, who side-stepped the centre-half but fired straight at the keeper.
Nostell was gaining ground with 10 minutes to go and referee, Mr Sporne waved away an appeal for a penalty, when Morris went down. It looked like the right call. Myles then broke on the left for Nostell and fired his cross in. This time Morris was fouled and Mr Sporne pointed to the spot. Mario Campagna stepped up to take the penalty, but Daniel Waring in the Winterton goal was equal to his shot, saving low to his left. The rebound off the left upright was fired straight back in, only to be cleared off the line. Nostell should have gone in, at least one up at half-time.

The second half saw Nostell come off the blocks looking to win the game. Again, Poole worked hard and led by example, as he tried to get Nostell going. Winterton had made a change, with Fiddis off for Snow.
Nostell then swapped Scott Smith with Ashley Smith. With Nostell’s Myles, Poole and Johnson seeing more of the ball, it looked as though Nostell would press on and win the game. For 25 minutes Nostell created chances, but failed to finish and then got caught out when Winterton won the ball in midfield. Finnigan fired low to Saynor’s right and the ball bobbled over the Nostell goal line. 0:1 to Winterton.
The goal gave Winterton new life and Saynor, in Nostell’s goal was called in to service to keep the score down.
Nostell came back into the game and were caught again, when Graves for Winterton, played a great ball through to Marshall who finished in a flash. 0:2 to Winterton.
Nostell tried in vain to get something from the game, but Winterton held on comfortably.
