NOTINGHAMIANS 5 CHESTERFIELD 15
With Cricket still at Adbolton Hamians entertained Chesterfield at Mapperly Top at Mellish RFC . The weather was pleasant and the summer rain meant a stud was the option .
Spillers was at the helm as the skipper was recruiting in the beer halls of munich , karim was benching as a morning swim was more important than starting the game .
With this being the first outing the selection meant 4 debutants several golden oldies and previous retired pesonnal started .
The game was evenally matched with Chesterfield taking an early lead following a slick off load to the supporting back row off a long line out .
Hamians line out was functioning well and spoiling opposition ball . The backs and forward enjoyed good possession and Dave 0’M went over in the corner to make it 7 -5 .
Silly penalties allowed field position to Chesterfield and hamians defended stoutly at the end of the first half .
The second half started with Chesterfield scoring a penalty .
Hamians driving play got them repeatedly into the Chesterfield 22 but often penalised to allow the pressure to be realeased .
Rolling subs allowed fresh legs to both sides .
Mistakes allowed field position and Chesterfield were awarded a try by the referee , strangely Chesterfield did not appeal for the try and were too embarrassed to celebrate .
5 -15 and Hamians felt had done to but took the game to Chesterfield attempting to run the ball with some success although stout defence meant Chesterfield ran out winners .
Both sides had showed positive aspects of play and execution of opportunities is the key to success .
