Played at a new neutral venue in York

The Scorpions hopped on the road to take on the Tigers in York. With a few players unavailable, and Batch suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, the bench was looking a bit slim compared to previous weeks.

The first quarter we produced some fantastic and smart football, with the right options being taken at the right times, and this translating to points on the board. Goals were shared around between the forwards and the middle, with Chill being the standout with 3 goals no behinds. At the other end, we managed to restrict Tyne to 2 behinds. First quarter finished 8.4.52 to 0.2.2.

The 2nd quarter was more of the same, however things began to drift a bit due to the increasing wind. Batch was dominating proceedings in the ruck, allowing some good ball for the rovers. Again, we worked our handpasses well to put men into the clear, and took our options well. Tombstone was the standout up front, with 3 goals no behinds to finish the half with 5 goals at 100% shooting accuracy. Again we were solid at the back, shutting down their attacking opportunities while setting up our own, with Josh, Carter and Rich providing some good ball going forward. The half time whistle blew with the score at 15.9.99 to 0.4.4.

The third quarter began to head downhill a little bit in terms of standards. Perhaps partially due to the pouring rain, perhaps partially due to complacency from our lead. A number of contenders for dick of the day began to emerge, although were controversially ignored in the post-match discussions. While we did put 6 goals through, our accuracy faltered which resulted in 11 behinds. Unfortunately Tyne did manage a goal due to some good option selection from them out of congested play in the middle. The 3 quarter time score finished at 21.20.146 to 1.4.10.

The 4th quarter we began to regain a bit more of our structure, although Tyne did manage to grab a goal early on in the quarter. From then on out however it was all one way traffic, with some better options being made in terms of kicking to leads. Final score ended up Nottingham Scorpions 26.26.182, Tyne Tees Tigers 2.6.18.

Players player of the day was Ashley Swift, some well deserved recognition for some solid work all day out of the middle to free up ball for others around him.

Dick of the day goes to yours truly, for attempting to blast goals from 40 metres out and generally not following the gameplan I want everyone else to play.

Special mentions go to Sam, who held himself well in his first outing for the Scorps. Also special mention to Charlene Swift for temporarily losing her timekeeping duties to an aggressive goal umpire. Final special mention goes to Keith for taking the whistle for umpiring duties.

All in all, another good day to be a Scorpion.

Snip snip.
