Nottingham 93 def Wolverhampton 54

Semi-final – Scorpions v Wolverines

Right from the get go the Scorpions knew it was going to be a tough couple of hours against a fierce opponent. There was a lot of stoppages and gear changes but we stuck to the plan and finally made it to Junction 19. The M6 had been defented, our first win of the day.

After a good stretch and warm up in the swamp, our boots were full of water and we were ready to play, as soon as the umpire decided to showed up. Who needs a start time anyway?

The first half was low scoring, but that was only due to inaccurate kicking. The Back men were defending brilliantly, making it very hard for Wolves to get close to the goals. The midfield was battling hard, they were linking up really well and had some good handball option amongst themselves. Delivering the ball into the forward line, putting it out in front and making it easy to take marks.
The scorpions were leading by 2 point at quarter time (Notts 1-5 v Wolves 1-3) and at the much needed half time break Nottingham was down by 1 (Notts 3-9 v Wolves 3-10).

After Josh was done getting his massage from Chill and Dicko had a successful blood transfusion after losing a few pints from his knees in the first half, 1-2-3 SCORPIONS!! Was yelled out and the second half was underway. The 3rd quarter was much better in the way of scoring. Adding to the scorpion’s goal kicking list was our fearless Spartan like defender Keith, Slotting one from the right hand side straight through the middle of the big sticks. Wolverhampton were getting frustrated by our defenders swatting away the football like Manuel Neuer as it was heading towards their goals. Nottingham came out on top at the end of the 3rd outscoring the Wolves by 2-2, bringing the total score to Notts 9-11 v Wolves 7-10.

Going into the 4th quarter the Scorpions did not take the foot off the accelerator at all. The backline would just not give the Wolves a break, right up until the final siren they were determined not to give Wolverhampton a chance to get back into the game. Even when they had all of their players in the forward 50 the Iron curtain held strong. Ash, Chill, Batchy, Neil, Josh did not stop all day and did their job to a tee in the midfield. Working with each other to find the space and the clearance and I know it’s already been said but the delivery to the forward line was subline. Our forward line ended up having a pretty good day at the office, aside from far too many points in the first half we managed to get a few goals on the board.

As I’m writing this I obviously got DoD for having a shot from about 10m out in front and trying to kick the ball back to Nottingham. Of course I missed to the right (with only seconds to go on the clock).

The Players Player goes to 3-Keith 2-Lucas 1-Ashley. These three played awesome footy on Saturday and they certainly deserve the votes. But the whole team played some great football and we are very much looking forward to playing the Grand Final next week against The Mozzies.

Final Score Nottingham 13-15 V Wolverhampton 7-12
