Pre season is gathering speeding and as such it was time for some contact work. As such, we ventured off to North Shields on Friday and Saturday to step away from training and have some competitive rugby.
On Friday, players mainly taken from our third and fourth teams put the shirt on against Percy Park, Prudhoe and a Baa Baa's side. It was a shame the RFU ran event was not supported by more clubs as we had a cracking evening despite the rain.
Squad - Ryan Crowson, Hayden Williamson, Jeff Burke, Mike Patrickson (new) Francis Eze, Luke Foster, Jack Salt, Ryan Gibson (colt) Tommy Wilson, Greg Humphreyson, Alex Carr (guest) Jack Pellew, Alex Cokeley, James Bromley (guest) Christian Selkirk and David Marshall
We won two and lost one going down to a strong Percy Park side after leading at half time. The boys learnt a lot during the evening and enjoyed Nth Shields hospitality after the matches.
Thanks to Jack Pellew and Christian Selkirk for help organising players and equipment. Cheers to Jack Lambert and Larry Mew for running the event.
On Saturday we were the only club to take two sides along to the Nth Shields 7's. the Unlovables and Undateables were once again rolled out.
Undateables - Sean Ramsay, Jez Nash, Darren Kelly, Lewis Chater, Ben Wollerton, James Loraine (debut) Dan Brewer (debut) Sam Bird, Andy Hall, George Bambrick, Henry Wilson, Sam Warwick (debut) Zach Weatherhead
Unlovables - Ben Merrett, Shaun Stewart, Daniel Shuttleworth, Tom Cox, Rich Harrison, David Bowman (colt) Jeff Burke, Tommy Clapperton (colt) Christian Selkirk
The boys had a really good day, competitive matches throughout and really benefited from the sevens session on Thursday carried out by Dame Allan's Head of Rugby, Ed Midcalf. In addition it was great to see Old Allanian's Dan Brewer, Sam Warwick and James Loraine debut for the club.
The Undateables were unbeaten all day with defence coming to the fore. Victories over Rockcliff, Percy Park and Nth Shields with the draw against tournament winners Alnwick the only bump in the road on the day. It could've been our name on the main trophy as Alnwick scored on the final play to earn a draw. Instead we had to settle for Plate Winners.
Again, the boys enjoyed the hospitality of Nth Shields RFC so special thanks to Simon Forster for organising.
Final social 7's event is this Friday at Morpeth - anyone wishing to play please let Magnus Leask or Jack Pellew know.
