One positive of lockdown has been that the players have turned up in better nick than ever after hitting the pavements recently.

Whilst I have been sitting on my backside getting bigger by the week the boys have obviously been pounding the pavement or walking in the wilderness.

For those that are not in the know, club players have had access to two generic sessions and the wider first team boys have had one additional session a week. If you have not been able to access this info and would like to please contact magnusleask@hotmail.com or 07904435993.

The majority of testing has been done whilst in bubbles to ensure the boys can safely improve their fitness as well as getting back to socialising. Some incredible results have been set as records tumble.

Vets records :
Shuttle record of 20.5 by Matt Bradford improved to 24.5 by Ben Merrett
Push Up record of 80 increased by the holder, Tommy Wilson Snr to 81
WAT record of 118 by Colin Tristram cut to 114 seconds by Matt Bradford

Front five records :
WAT record of 117.03 cut to 109.15 by Chris Ward

Back row records :
Shuttle record of 22 by Alex Cleminson improved to 25.5 by Sean Ramsay
Down n Ups record of 97 by Alex Cokeley improved to 103 by Sean Ramsay

Back three records :
WAT record of 107.1 reduced by the holder Ben Wollerton to 98 secs
Push Up record of 62 increased by the holder, Ben Wollerton to 64

In addition, almost 40 lads have completed the Bronco Test with some great results. Such as, Tom Dias running the fastest front row time of 5.18. Young Ryan Gibson graduating from our colts and taking the second row winning time at 5.17. When it came to the lowest times Sam Bird and Sean Ramsay won the quickest back and forward respectively. Sam running 4 mins 27 and Sean finishing in 4 mins 33 secs.

So, at the moment I would say our mens section are in a phase of re-engagement with fitness activities with no real rugby specificity going on at all. However, we have plenty of time to build our bodies back to a point where we can tolerate rugby. We are entering an extended and varied pre season programme hoping that our fitness will improve as well as our well being.

Early signs are fantastic with the boys in a much better place fitness wise than they were at the same time last pre season.

So if you you'd like to get involved in an opportunity to improve your health and well being please get in touch with Magnus Leask. No matter what your level we have a rugby team for you - 4 teams, 1 club.

Rugby for all, rugby for life - Up the Vos !
