Josh Holland talks to Boro man;

James Clifton says it was good to beat Redditch United on Saturday after last week’s 2-0 defeat at St Ives.

The defender netted the winner in Tuesday night’s League Cup turnaround against Rushall Olympic and was instrumental again in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Redditch.

‘They (Redditch) were similar to how St.Ives set up, they banked up and made us remain really patient. I think the only thing missing in the first half is a goal, but obviously we’ve come out and won the game. Eddie (Edmunds) has done brilliantly to win a penalty and Luke put it away, so we really went on from there’.

‘It’s easier at home because of the pitch. The groundsman does an excellent job, so it is easier to get the ball moving. Away from home we can’t seem to move the ball as well, teams bank up against us and we get caught on the break, just like St.Ives.’

For the past two games, Clifton has been utilised as a centre-back with Ryan Edmunds roaming the right-hand side as a wing-back. However, despite performing in a different position, the former Alfreton man isn’t fazed.

‘To be fair, the way I’ve been playing isn’t different to how I was playing as a full-back. Eddie has been brilliant the last couple of games and he deserves to be playing every match. The only thing missing today for him was a goal’.

The 3-0 victory over Redditch means Boro have won their last seven games at home, continuing the rise up the table. In contrast to the start of the season, Clifton believes time was all that was needed.

‘We were a new team going into the season. When we started it wasn’t quite clicking and I think everything is coming together now. The lads know each other, we’ve got that relationship now.

‘Points on the board are always better than having to win them. We know teams above us have games in hand, but it puts pressure on both teams to make sure they win their games. We’ve just got to keep doing what we are doing, and we will keep plugging away’.
