On Tuesday night, Nuneaton Borough welcomed a familiar foe as they faced Hereford FC of the National League North. The game began with McWilliams showing two glimpses of skill as on two occasions he stormed into the Hereford box in the opening 12 minutes, on one occasion cheekily nutmegging the Hereford defender before spraying a ball across goal. However, this was as good as it got for Boro as Hereford ran rampant forcing Jezeph into a couple of good saves, with former Aberdeen goal machine Adam Rooney creating a lot of problems. Despite this, Boro were able to keep things even going into the second half in a stormy affair that reflected the weather, with midway through the first half, Hereford man Maehisa picking up a yellow card for a nasty challenge.
Half Time: 0-0
The second half carried on the trend of the first, with Hereford applying further pressure, eventually breaking the deadlock when a cross bounced off Lathaniel Rowe-Turner into his own net. This gave the visitors some much needed momentum, when less than five minutes later Coby Arthur was sent through on goal, slotting under Dan Jezeph to double the visitors lead. Hereford further added to Boro’s misery in the 62nd minute when a penalty was cooly dispatched after Bilal Yafai clumsily tripped a Hereford player in the box. This seemed to have revitalised Boro as they had Hereford on the back foot pushing to make a comeback, which was rewarded in the 78th minute when Victor Nirennold converted in the rebound after an effort from Connor Furlong bounced off the post giving him an easy job. It ended up only being a consolation goal for Boro as Ollie Southern nodded in a powerful header, rounding up an emphatic victory for the National League North outfit.
