On Tuesday night Boro welcomed Coventry City U21s to the FCS Stadium in search of a much needed boost going into Saturday's opening league fixture away at Berkhamsted.
Coventry fielded a youthful side, whose energy was shown from the get go with Evan Eghasa and Justin Obikwu using their pace and talent to put the Boro backline under pressure. Boro were able to hold their ground with the physicality of Victor Nirennold and Scott McManus being integral in preventing any key chances.
Boro were able to open the scoring in the 23rd minute as the returning Leroy Lita got past his marker before sliding a shot under the keeper and into the net. Soon after the goal, there was a lengthy stoppage in play after a nasty looking injury to Tristen Batanwi who the club would like to wish a speedy recovery to. Finley Osborn was quick off his line on numerous occasions to thwart the City attack.
Half Time:1-0
Just minutes into the second half, Connor Tomlinson doubled Boro's lead dinking the ball over Cian Tyler in the City goal. In the 69th minute, Tyler went down with a head injury meaning he had to be replaced by Luis Lines. It was not long before the young keeper was picking the ball out of his net when Tyrell Waite advanced down the left flank with pace before shooting across goal with the effort turned into the net by the Coventry centre-back.
In the final minute a member of the new Boro Academy, Oliver Szymanski, drove into the box smashing an effort past Lines and into the bottom corner.
