The hosts were given a tough test against recently promoted Notts County who brought a mixed set of players to the FCS Stadium for their opening pre-season clash.
The opening goal of the game was turned in by Nott's talisman Macaulay Langstaff as he converted Aaron Nemane's cross from close range on 25 minutes.
Fifteen minutes later and the Boro would have a close range effort blocked as Connor Tomlinson had to settle for a corner following his attempt.
Liam Castle certainly gave the home management team something to think about pulling off two unbelievable saves in quick succession tipping two shots over his crossbar.
On the stroke of half-time, Jim O'Brien doubled the lead after making his way into the box before a fine finish saw the ball hit the back of the net.
Half Time 0-2
After a quite start to the second half, just after the hour mark, Matt Stenson and Alex Lafleur would link up well down the left flank before the striker entered the box and firing a curing effort just wide of the post.
With around 20 minutes left to play, Cedwyn Scott put the cherry on top of a strong County showing. The defence was split following a David McGoldrick pass before Scott slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.
