FA Cup 1st Round Qualifying.
The road to Wembley continued for underdogs Carlton Town after they slayed Nuneaton Borough on their home turf. The scoring was opened by Dean Freeman in the opening few minutes heading in a cross at the back post leaving keeper Liam Castle rooted to his spot. Just past the half hour mark, the Millers doubled their lead through Khyle Sargent. The visiting skipper caught Castle in possession of the ball inside his penalty area before dispossessing the keeper and turning the ball into an empty net. Boro grabbed a goal back on the stroke of half-time after Jamie Ward's effort took a deflection off the defender directing the ball into the net.
Half-Time: 1-2
Minutes into the second half, Nuneaton had the chance to level from the spot after a foul on winger Jamie Ward just inside the area. Frontman Leroy Lita’s effort clipped the top side of the bar after a prolonged run up. Boro continued to mount pressure onto the away side with Kane Richards forcing a save out of Felix Annan just after the hour. It was a pleasant day for ex-Boro man Greg Tempest who returned to Liberty Way for the first time since departing the club in the summer of 2018, he played a pivotal role in his sides victory. Late into added time, the Boro had an effort cleared off the line, the referee waved play on despite multiple claims that the ball had crossed the line. The stand out player of the day was Millers keeper Annan, the Ghanaian put his body on the line throughout the game pulling off multiple last gasp saves to keep his side in front.
