Nuneaton Borough welcomed high flyers Royston Town to The FCS Stadium with fans expecting a tough game. Royston controlled the opening few minutes of the match. Cain Keller looked to create the first opportunity, splitting the Boro defence with a through ball that was intercepted by skipper Scott McManus. Striker Matt Stenson had the first clear cut chance for the home side with an effort from just outside the box whistling past the far post. On the stroke of half time, Alex Lafleur produced a great curling strike from a tight angled free-kick forcing a save from Louis Chadwick.
Half Time 0-0
Stenson scored just minutes into the second half with a volley from inside the box that nestled into the far top corner of the goal. The visitors nearly drew level with James Brighton striking against the post from a free kick. The Crows had a last gasp chance to equalise at the end of a lengthy period of injury time. However, on this occasion, Brighton’s effort was blazed over the bar. Liam Castle played an integral role in earning Boro’s first clean sheet of the season with multiple good saves. Young Derby County forward Owen Oseni made a cameo appearance towards the end of the match gaining some valuable minutes at first team level.
