One of the few Southern League Central games that was played over the weekend saw Nuneaton travel to Redditch who were coming off 3 straight wins in the league. Nuneaton on the other hand suffered defeat to Barwell at home the previous weekend so were looking to be able to bounce back and grab all 3 points.
There were a couple changes to the side coming into the game, a key one was the injury of top goalscorer Matty Stenson being unable to play so Jimmy Ginnelly turned to the young Owen Oseni to partner with Leroy Lita upfront.
The game got underway and started evenly with Boro having more of the ball and the best of the chances when full back Jaden Charles played a cross along the six-yard box, but no player was able to get on the end of it. However, after 13 minuets Camron McWilliams strikes an effort from around 25 yards out which finds its way into the back of the net after slipping under the Redditch keeper. Boro found their dominance after taking the lead and were able to create more chances. Oseni started with a nice run to the edge of the area however his effort was deflected wide. It wasn’t long until Mcwilliams was able to find the back of the net again on 21 minuets. A beautiful cross field ball from Storer fell to Lita who was able to slot McWilliams through and he lifted it into the far side of the net giving Boro a 2-goal cushion. Redditch then came close with a free kick from Reece Flanagan who was inches away from the top corner however unable to get it on target. The rest of the first half was quiet with little chances which meant the Boro went into half time with a 2-0 lead.
The second half kicked off with Boro looking to extend their lead and they nearly did with a Kyle Storer free kick hitting the bar as well as well as a long-range effort from Jaden Charles rifling against the bar just moments after. The second 45 wasn’t full of chances at all with the odd couple for either side however none threatened either keeper too much. We went into added time where a Redditch free kick was swung in to meet Aram Soleman who forced Jezeph to make a superb save down to his right to deny the home side a way back into the game. Shortly after, the final whistle blew and Boro were able to come away with a 2-0 victory. A superb display from those in blue as they were able to control the game and see off a strong Redditch side.
