Nuneaton Town 2-1 Harrogate Town

Goals from Jordan Nicholson and Ashley Chambers did the damage as Boro responded superbly to consecutive defeats.

Boro made a strong start as they sought to secure their first victory of 2018 and after an early corner was eventually cleared by Harrogate, the pressure only increased.

Nicholson burst forward before dragging wide and moments later hit an effort on target but into the pitch making it easy for James Belshaw in the away sides goal.

But the man on loan from League 1 Peterborough continued to threaten and got his reward in the 18th minute.

Daniel Nti endeavoured down the left channel and cut inside sharply to set up Nicholson. The attacker took a superb touch to evade the oncoming defender and fired home left footed across the keeper to open the scoring.

Boro continued to push looking to extend their advantage, whilst limiting the visitors to half chances and appeared to be heading into the break with their lead intact.

However a lapse in concentration in first half added time saw Harrogate pull level. A well delivered free-kick was neatly volleyed home at the far post by Tom Kennedy as the sides went in one a piece.

After the interval neither side was able to instantly kick on, but then in the 56th minute frontman Chambers proved his worth yet again to the Boro cause.

First half goal scorer Nicholson lifted a delightful ball over the visiting defence perfectly in the strikers path. Taking just one touch to set himself Chambers confidently dispatched when one-on-one to restore Boro’s lead.

Evidently boosted by regaining the lead Nuneaton pushed forward looking to put the match to bed.

Left back Niall Heaton surged forward but could only fire a long range effort wide, before Nicholson slammed a free-kick just the wrong side of the post.

Harrogate predictability laid siege on the Boro goal, but lacked a finishing touch to punish Nuneaton in the closing stages.

However the Boro defensive effort proved enough to see home the victory, aided by a late save from Lyness, who was on hand to stop Harrogate from point blank range and ensure the three points were Nuneaton’s.
