Jamie Riley reports;
Nuneaton secured their first away league win of the season with an impressive 2-0 victory against Alvechurch.
Goals from Ollie Bassett and Leroy Lita were enough to see off Church in the last game before the lockdown break.
Boro started strongly as they dictated the play for the opening 20 minutes or so with their counter attacking football proving effective.
The first real chance of the game resulted in the opening goal.
In the 13th minute Ollie Bassett was played through the middle by a superb ball from Kelly and was able to finish sublimely past Sargeant in the Church goal.
However, the hosts nearly equalised only three minutes later when they were able to work their way into the box before sending in a cross which was headed high and wide to the relief of the Boro defence.
Boro were forced into an early substitution with the impressive Marcus Kelly forced off by an injury which shifted the momentum slightly.
Around the half hour mark the home side came into the game more and had chances to get back on level terms but Breeden kept them at bay.
Boro went in at half-time deservedly a goal to the good after having the better of the first half.
HT: 0-1
It was Boro who started the second half on the front foot with Kaziboni’s free-kick saved by the Alvechurch number one just minutes into the second half.
The home side then came into the game for a ten minute spell although Boro absorbed the pressure well.
In the 54th minute Nuneaton were given a penalty after Lita showed his experience and excellent technique.
His quick thinking and clever turn enabled him to wrong foot his man before being dragged down giving the referee no choice but to award the spot kick.
It was Lita himself whose job it was to convert and that is exactly what he did, knocking his penalty past Sargeant with ease.
The Lita goal seemed to stop any momentum that the home side had amounted.
This wasn’t helped when, in the 76th minute, Boro brought on Carl Baker who ignited the game with a great run that left several Alvechurch players in his wake.
His perfect pass put in Bassett but his touch was a little too heavy allowing the defender to clear.
Boro controlled the remainder of the game and were able to pick up their first away league victory of the season.
With the league suspended for at least the next four weeks it will give Boro some much needed breathing space to ease their injury list so they can pick up their excellent form when the season resumes.
