Nuneaton Borough were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at home against Bromsgrove Sporting as they returned to league action.
Despite Boro enjoying the majority of possession, and creating a number of good chances, they couldn’t find that all important winner.
The home side started on the front foot and were nearly rewarded for their early efforts in the 7th minute when a great switched ball found the feet of Armitage. He drove forward and sent a low ball to the back post which found Dwyer but his effort was well saved by the keeper.
Clements was the next to try his luck for Boro with 14 minutes gone but his effort from distance went past the post.
In the 18th minute Boro thought they had gone in front. Edmunds fought to get past his man, before putting a cross in which found its way to Shanks. His effort from the centre of the box flew agonisingly just inches over the bar.
Bromsgrove grew into the game and the dangerous Pias cut inside and forced Breeden into a smart save with 23 minutes on the clock.
Three minutes later a Clements free-kick met the head of Damien McCrory but he couldn’t direct his header on target.
The visitors collected three yellow cards after several rash challenges in a five minute spell prior to the half-hour mark.
McManus then forced a good save from Onodi with the last meaningful effort of the opening half.
HT: 0-0
Boro had a great chance to open the scoring in the 51st minute when a superb through ball set Dwyer free. However, he delayed his shot and this allowed the visitors keeper to narrow the angle and block his effort.
Just six minutes later the visitors broke the deadlock somewhat against the run of play. Pias was again involved as his cross towards the front post found the head of Brown whose effort flew past Breeden.
Despite the setback Boro continued to push for that elusive goal and they were finally rewarded in the 71st minute. A ball whipped into the centre of the box found Danny King whose first time effort soared into the back of the net.
A few minutes later Sporting should have regained the lead with two unmarked players on the end of a long ball just a few yards out, but between them they conspired to somehow send the ball over the bar.
Boro were knocking on the door as the game entered the final ten minutes.
Six minutes from time a Clements corner was headed just over the bar by McManus.
In the 88th minute Danny King hit a shot from distance but again it was too high and missed the target.
The final whistle brought both teams a share of the spoils but on the balance of chances Boro will feel they should have taken all three points.
