SEVEN GAME UNBEATEN RUN PRESERVED LATE ON -

The final game of the season at the Pingles produced a hard-fought battle but the visitors were left ruing several fine chances missed in the first-half when they had the breeze behind them.
Griff were not their usual self, but three adroit substitutions made a vast difference around the hour mark.

A big, strong and hard-running Wednesfield side sprang out of the traps on the whistle and Griff were forced to defend deep. Joe Salisbury was soon in action showing quick reactions to keep out a free header. Soon after winger Jimmy Yates sprang the off-side trap and chipped over the incoming Salisbury, but the ball went wide.
It was Yates again who skied a shot over the bar after Jack Dew had set him up and the longer it went on the more the visitors struggled in front of goal. The home side hardly had a sniff on goal all of the half and it was probably justified when with a minute to go to half-time Craig Tuckley received the ball in his own half and motored down the inside left channel before striking a great shot across Salisbury into the far corner.
HT: 0-1

After the break Wednesfield continued to press and that man Tuckley was just wide with a good effort. Griff at last grew into the game, especially with the introduction of Reece Williams with his strength and hard running up the right at last gave the visitors plenty to think about. Todd Loveitt with his long throws added to the armoury and moving into the final period it was now Griff on top and Wednesfield resorting to the odd breakaway!
Time was running out, with just two minutes left on the clock, when yet another high ball into the area was headed away to just outside the area and Ross Proudlock volleyed it back and in off the cross bar.
In added time it was Griff going for the victory but Dom Smith dragged a shot down on the line and it ended with honours even.
Griff ended the season seven games unbeaten and finished eighth in the table, a fine achievement for manager Sam Belcher, his staff and players.
FT: 1-1
