Second attempt catch by wicket keeper Scott Barron gives Andy Walker his first wicket for NCC after 22 years absence.

Aldwick won the toss and elected to bat on a sunny spring day. L Paul (28) and A Chauchan (40) got the home side off to a good start seeing off the NCC opening pair and scoring at around 4 runs per over. First change pace bowler Andy Walker (8 overs 2 for 40), playing his first game after 22 years, took a couple of overs to find line and length before succeeding in breaking the opening partnership on 61 by having L Paul caught at the second attempt by Scott Barron behind the wicket. Scott Barron took two more fine catches behind the stumps and, with only 4 byes to his debit, made an invaluable contribution to the Nuthurst fielding performance. Jeremy James (8 overs 2 for 18) worked out A Chauchan and Aldwick found themselves on 77 for 3 after 18 overs. However the 4th wicket yielded 57 runs in 10 overs before G Wilson (52) holed out to a fine catch in the deep by Keith Greenwood giving due reward to David Thompson (5 overs 1 for 41). Jonny Willis (4 overs 1 for 7) and the return of the opening bowlers Graham Prior (8 overs 2 for 29) and K Greenwood (7 overs 0 for 24) helped to restrict the home side to just 24 runs in the last 12 overs as they closed their innings on 158 for the loss of 8 wickets.

Refreshed after an excellent tea, the Nuthurst opening pair Guy Ekins (67) and Jonny Willis (5) put on 20 for the first wicket when an ill judged shot by the latter provided a well taken catch at first slip. In the 12th over skipper Bob Samways (7) departed wth the score on 38 bringing Stuart Catterall (18) to the crease. In just 6 overs the third wicket yielded 49 runs before Stuart unluckily played on. Scott Barron (30) kept the momentum going and Nuthurst were firmly in the driving seat when he was stumped in the 24th over with the score on 129. Shortly after Guy was deceived by a goodly and bowled without offering a shot. With two spin bowlers now in the attack, the stage was set for a Nuthurst collapse. However the aggressive Jeremy James (11) and cool headed Oliver Prior (6 no) and K Greenwood (6 no) saw Nuthurst safely home with 8 overs to spare.

An excellent all round team performance and plenty to talk about, whilst enjoying ale and other beverages, and the sun dipping below the horizon.
