Nuthurst posted a respectably large score of 240 thanks to some notable batting personal bests. In response, a confident Ardingley batting line-up came close to pulling off a thrilling victory before eventually being bowled out for 202 in the run-chase.

Report By Rahul Jobanputra.

On a damp but reasonably firm wicket, Ardingley CC (who admitted at the outset to being a ‘batting side’) chose to bowl first.

Raggy opted for a youthful opening pair - Nathan Williams and Ryan Mustard. The pair, in typical youthful fashion, started the match like a T20 game with Ryan putting away the first three balls for boundaries. Buttler/Bairtwo had better watch out!

Unfortunately Ryan’s innings did not last long. It brought in Rahul Jobanputra who with Nathan capitalised on some lack-lustre bowling. Nathan recorded a personal best score for Nuthurst before departing a few overs later.

After continuing to plunder the attack further, and at about the half-way stage, Rahul retired on 102 (also his personal best for the club) to give the remainder of the team a bat.

David Butcher, in particular responded well, although it has to be noted that he was particularly severe on his son’s (drafted in to play for the opposition) bowling after nearly being bowled by his first delivery!

David also recoded his personal best for the club, 44 not out.

Despite Nuthurst’s relatively strong bowling line-up, Ardingley also started off in T20 fashion - Chippy going for over 10 in his first over and after 5 overs Ardingley were going at over 8 an over. It was looking ominous for us at this point as the class of the opposition batsmen was clear to see - both openers are 1st team league players for their respective clubs.

Fortunately for us, James Simpson produced a beauty of a delivery to get rid of Pyle. However, despite Chippy edging closer to his personal milestone with two more wickets, Simon continued to score at will and at a rapid rate. His boundary hitting was restricted by fielders set deep, however, before long, he reached the century mark. And because of the situation (the run chase and a lack of depth in their batting after no. 6) Simon did not reciprocate Rahul’s gesture by retiring after his century. It was a ploy that nearly worked, but in an attempt to shield his partners and take as much of the last few balls that he could, Simon was run-out via an excellent throw in from DT, leaving Ardingley only 18 runs short with more than an over to go.

All-in-all a thoroughly entertaining match and, of course a great result for Nuthurst!
