TC comes out of retirement again! 300 club wickets for Raggy

Barns Green CC vs Nuthurst CC 13/09/2020 by David Thompson

On a beautiful September afternoon Nuthurst set off to Barns Green for a big hitting afternoon. With the weather CAVOK (in aviation terms!) or nothing to trouble the scorers (in cricketing terms) the beautiful calm and warm afternoon lead to an enjoyable game of cricket. Somehow 12 Nutters turned up and all took part at some point and a 13th turned up purely to score!!!!
We welcomed the return again! of Bob Weston for another return from retirement.
The Nutters took to the field and Barns Green set their intentions early on. After a couple of watchful over's from Barns green the openers decided to attack with Graham Prior being hit for 6 off a shorter ball, with a very fast outfield and steep slope anything past the infield raced to the boundary. Raggy Singh eventually took both openers with some great fielding by James Simpson who took the catch of the dangerous opener who's rapid (14) set things up, James was well targeted throughout the innings and showed great commitment on this hot afternoon in the field. Raggy dismissed the top 3 before Connor Blanchard (72) and R Munger (42) partnership got Barnes Green to a healthy total. Eventually Graham Prior got one more to his tally of 997 wickets clean bowling Blanchard who was now trying to hit everything a long way! With the return on Bob Weston finishing with 2-44, Charlie Price 1-40 and James Simpson 1-11 cleaning up the tail who were still swinging at most things Barns Green were bowled out for 213.
With Chippy getting ever closer to 1,000 wickets it sometimes means we miss other milestones with Raggy collecting his 300th wicket for Nuthurst. Well done Raggy!
After what we have become used to with our disappointment of lunches, that have warmed up nicely in the afternoon sun, Nuthurst went out to chase down the total, having bowled Barns Green out we had inherited a couple of extra over's to achieve this feat.
Rich Holman and Trevor Broughton opened for the Nutters and Rich set to the task immediately of following Barns green example of finding the boundary. Rich's quick 22 gave us initial impetus and Trevor picking up steady runs supporting the big hitters, after Rich was caught off opening bowler Hammond, James Simpson continued the attack and made a quick 13 and was unlucky to be given out as he was caught off a ball that may well have been above waist height!? This brought Dave Butcher to the crease and along with Trevor built a partnership over many over's which although brought the run rate down ensured we batted deep and through our allotted over's. Dave was eventually caught behind for 20 after batting 15 over's with Trevor. Raggy then came in and brought Barns green back on their toes as his quick fire 50 meant there was a game on. Trevor eventually out on 49 had an introduction to running as when Raggy was in every half run was made into a run and Trevor felt it at the end but what a brilliant knock by Trevor. Trevor was eventually caught out and in came Charlie Price with well two things on his mind! 1: to make his mark on the wicket with some pile driving guard marking, much to the annoyance of a well lubricated grounds man in the bar! 2: To help Raggy chase down these last 60 runs with 6 over's left. Unfortunately 2nd ball he was caught but showed the intent for both his deliveries! David Thompson (2no) then supported Raggy although the draw now was the only option with Raggy finishing with (59no) after blocking a very dangerous spinner for his one and only over of the innings at the end, who was still concerned that only 34 were needed off the last over!!!!
