Its always nice to welcome new teams to our fixture list. On the 18th we played Cost Cutters CC for the first time.
Nuthurst were asked to bat and skipper Raggy Singh saw an opportunity to change things around, thus we saw Keith Greenwood open with young Alex McLennan. Sadly it wasn't Alex's day with the bat, but more about his day later. Keith was joined by Charlie South and the pair built a useful partnership of 48, Keith showing a welcome return to form with the bat fell with his score on 30. 3 quick wickets slowed Nuthurst's progress for a while, Raggy (38) and James Simpson (20) settled things down and alongside good contributions from the tail Nuthurst ended their innings on 174.
Sadly for the Cutters they struggled to build meaningful partnerships and when they looked as if they may break the shackles, two of the Nuthurst junior cricketers struck. Luis Hargis and Alex McLennan both bowled accurate spells, Luis, who had been excellent in the field, finished with figures of 4 overs 1 wicket for 7 runs. Alex returned figures of 4 overs, 2 wickets for 19 runs. His spell included an opportunity of a hat trick. it wasn't to be on this occasion, it will only be a matter of time before he creates another chance!
The Cutters finally subsided to 81 all out, fittingly the final wicket falling to Jeremy James who returned great figures of 5.5 overs, 4 wickets for 25.
An entertaining game, that saw Nuthurst continue their run of good performances and once again we witnessed more junior players coming through the ranks, which promises much for the future. With that the seniors players thoughts turned to this years Bath Tour..................
