SAFEGUARDING AT OAKHAM RFC 1 of 9

1. WHAT IS SAFEGUARDING?

Safeguarding children in the UK refers to the policies and procedures which an Organisation must implement to ensure that every child has the right to protection from harm.

Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 is government implemented Statutory Guidance, adopting a child-centered approach to professional multi-agency working to support and protect children.

At ORFC we fully adhere to RFU Safeguarding Policies and promote their principles within our own safeguarding policy:

  • The welfare of children is paramount.
  • All children, regardless of background or identity, have the right to participate in rugby safely and positively.
  • Concerns about abuse or harm are taken seriously and addressed swiftly and fairly.
  • Collaboration is key to ensuring children’s welfare and development.

Under Child Protection Laws and RFU policy, a “child” is defined as anyone under the age of 18 participating in rugby.
