Torrance Cricket Club from Kirkintilloch were the visitors to an overcast Taynuilt on Sunday the 21st of August. This friendly marked the testimonial of Oban bowler David Brown who has been forced into retirement with a shoulder injury and he will be sorely missed by everyone at the club.

Oban captain Davy Hannah won the toss and opted to bat first on a damp wicket which was thought to deteriorate later. Andrew Leach quickly raced to 12 with a couple of trademark hooks before top-edging one to mid-off. Torrance Seamer De Brincat bowled Laycock for 17 and trapped Debnath lbw for 11 to leave Oban in trouble at 57 for 5. Carre and Jahed needed to steady the ship and they did just that with Carre hitting four sixes on his way to 54 and Jahed dug-deep for his 27. This 6th wicket partnership of 70 helped the Oban total on to 158 all-out with Ferry returning figures of 2 for 39 for the opposition.

The Torrance batsmen took to the middle after tea chasing 159 to win but they found the disciplined bowling of Leach and Kumar difficult to get away only scoring 15 from the first 10 overs. Finding themselves behind the run-rate Torrance began to take risks and Allan Laycock brought about their downfall when he bowled Campbell. Once again, Neill Belshaw was the pick of the Oban bowlers with three wickets as the young Torrance side slumped to 44 all out leaving the home team victors by 114 runs.
This Saturday Oban welcome Arran side Sannox to Taynuilt for a league-deciding fixture .
