Last game of the season on a sunny day at Shepton Beauchamp, only bragging rites to play for but with a full squad and everyone wanting to play tough decisions had to be made. We started brightly and Jake Skipp's left foot 18 yard shot in the seventh minute hit the outside of the side netting when it looked to have gone in. It was not all one way traffic and Connor had to rush from his line to deflect a save at the feet of the incoming attacker to keep the hosts at bay. Just before the half hour mark Ki Bowden ventured forward down our left wing and from his cross into their goalmouth area the ball evaded their keeper and defenders and Stu Porter was on hand at the far post to slot home. We had the upper hand and because of this they upped the anti and more rough tackling came into play. Jake Skipp being one that took a knock and was replaced. Then just before half time an on the edge of their area a shot by Jordan stung their keepers fingers as he palmed the ball away for a corner. Jordan took the kick and when it was half cleared to Darren Briant on the edge of their area his drilled shot into the crowded six yard area was flicked on by man of the moment Ki Bowden and that was enough to get the ball in the back of their net. So 2-0 up at half time, but we knew from the last time we were here all was not over. A few replacements for limping players and we were off into the second half which proved to be just as competitive. Ten minutes in Aiden failed to clear on the edge of the penalty area and lost possession then turned and in his tackle their player went to ground, penalty given, soft decision considering what else had been going on. Their spot kick taker blasted the ball well over the bar, a let off. Then just past the hour a left wing ball into our penalty area saw Ki eye up a big boot clearance only to completely miss the ball and this left their attacker one on one with Connor, at a bit of an angle he found the inside of the far post and they were back in the game. With just over ten minutes of the game remaining the goal of the game, unfortunately scored by the hosts was a first time volley from 20 yards out when their corner had been half cleared. Right into the top corner it went giving no one a chance to get to it. Minutes later after their centre forward had obviously dived in our penalty area trying to get another penalty awarded action man Ki was sent to the sin bin for commenting on the referee's decision. He must have thought his game was over but he did return for the final few minutes in which time, even a man down we had taken the game back into their half and with minutes to spare Jordan Wakefield's curling free kick from 25 yards was heading for the top corner of their goal when their keeper's finger tips pushed it out for a corner, great save, and points shared.
