As part of the day, we will be packing away their traditional blue and white and donning our one-off pink jerseys for our Charity Match in aid of cancer research at The Christie. This is an important issue as sadly, most of us have experienced the effects of this illness; either directly or through our beloved family and friends.
Recently, some of our friends have suffered the pain of losing those closest to them. For all of us at the club, as we are so close, we have all suffered this loss together and we want to do something about it.
As curtain raiser we're hoping to host a a special 3rd XV 'Barbarians' game (to be confirmed), before the 1st XV open their 2013/14 league campaign by taking on Carnforth, and the 2nd XV play local rivals Broughton Park at 3pm.
The charity game v Carnforth is Old Bedians doing "our bit" to raise money for the good people at The Christie Hospital to use towards their excellent work in cancer research. Hopefully "our bit" can go a long way to help in the treatment of this disease.
While the 1st XV squad will being asked to buy their own shirts, we also have a number of supporters shirts available (see below) in return for a minimum donation of £30. These will be available on the day, or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to register your interest.
We have secured some funding for the event and are continuing to knock on as many doors as we can. We will be raising money through various means - players and spectators game jerseys, food and drink sales, a variety of raffles on the day along with personal and corporate donations.
Please, if you can make it, come down to club on the day and join in the fun - it should be a great day and we're looking to raise as much money as we can for the Christie.
If you can't make it, or if you'd like to contribute with either a personal or a coporate donation, visit our just giving site at www.justgiving.com/OldBediansCharityGame - and don't forget to tell everyone you know.
We may not pretty, but lets hope we're effective. Please, dig deep and donate now.
