Old Cents played their final preseason match at the weekend when they entertained Usk RFC who hail from near Newport.Cents would like to thank their visitors for turning up as they struggled to raise a side as a few of their younger players were not available.
Those that turned up gave Cents a decent workout although the score line might not suggest it.Cents used all their 25 man squad that was chosen for the match and many new moves were run through ahead of the first league match against Bracknell. All in all a good workout as Usk never gave in at all and made Cents work for their win.
Cents scored11 tries through Nathan Stroud,Ben Turk,Ben Constantine,Sam Preece,Joe Preece,Liam Hemming,Michael Mathers,Richard Pinkney,Ollie Locke,Dale Cookwest and Ryan Townsend.Liam Hemming kicked 9 conversions to complete the homes sides scoring.
Some of the new squad members notably Ben Costantine,Josh Lyons and returning Ryan Townsend made their impacts on the match and one feature that stood out during the match was how fit the squad looked,Cents are in better shape going into the new season than they did for the last one.I think Lee and Kenny are to thank for this and also we have most of our recognised first players available for the start of the new season not like last year when it took to near Christmas to have our proper first team out.
Roll on Saturday when Bracknell arrive to meet a fully committed Cents side and they will be given a warm welcome.
