Old Cents moved into the semi final of the NGC senior cup with a work man like display of forward power plus powerful running and handling in the backs.
Cents were on top from the start and their victory was made possible by a dominant scrum and loose play whereby on numerous occasions the Cents forwards turned over Richians ball.Cents also had a good lineout and the Cents powerful backs had plenty of ball to work with in order to put their visitors on the back foot.
Cents were well on top for the first half hour and they scored three tries one of which was converted plus they converted a penalty as well.Cents try scorers were Shay Morgan,Ryan Townsend plus Lewis May with Shay Morgan kicking one conversion plus a penalty.
Richians came back into the game in the last 10 mins of the first half when they managed to get some ball and they took the game to Cents. However they came up against a solid Old Cents defensive display with the away side not having the power to force a break through, score at half time 20-0 to the home side.
Richians after half time again took the game to the home side and for the first 15 mins of the second half Cents were again on the back foot. However strong defence stopped Richians and on the odd occasion Cents nearly broke through on the counter attack. After Richians efforts had come to nothing Cents again took the over and went on to seal victory with a further two unconverted tries scored by Shay Morgan plus Alex Cox.Final score 30-0 to the home side.
Richians young side battled hard through out the match and never gave in,however Cents had to much power in both the forwards plus backs.Cents now move on to play Old Pats in a league derby match on Saturday and hopefully they will be able to field a strong side for the game.It was nice to have Shay Morgan plus Alex Cox back, however there was still a number of players not available for selection for the cup game.
