Cents travelled to North Britol knowing that they would be in for a tough time during this Glos Intermediate cup final and so it proved.
North Bristol like Cents are one of the form teams in the league at this moment and with the Bristol side having home advantage they were the favourites to win this tie. Also North Bristol is not one of Cents happy hunting grounds as we do not win very often at this Bristol ground. Also North Bristol have a far stronger pack of forwards which they use to their advantage very well.
North Bristol started the stronger and by half time they led 16-0 having first use of the elements. They scored one converted try when they capitalised on a mistake by Old Cents at a lineout near their line and scored a further two penalties and one drop goal.
Old Cents tried hard in the second half to come back but were thwarted by a strong North Bristol defensive effort.Cents were next to score when Craig Anderson kicked a penalty but the come back was short lived when North Bristol scored an unconverted try following pressure on the away sides scrum close to their line.
With the score at 21-3 to the home side Cents had a mountain to climb but to their credit they fought their way back to 21-15 when Sam Preece scored a try when Cents caught and drove from a line out close to the North Bristol line. The try was converted by Craig Anderson and this was followed by a Lewis May try which was not converted.Score 21-15 going into the final stages, however,North Bristol had the final say at the end when they scored an unconverted try when they to caught and drove from a lineout near the Cents line.
Final score 26-15 and Cents had tasted their first defeat for a number of games.Cents can now concentrate on the league and learn from this defeat as we have to come to North Bristol again not long into the New Year.Cents will have to learn to match up to North Bristol's big pack and adapt to their game plan of using their forwards.
